 Equality

As outlined in our school vision, and in accordance with The Equality Act 2010, we firmly believe that all individuals within our school should be protected from discrimination. We have made adjustments to our school environment, and the facilities we provide, with the aim to ensure our school is accessible and welcoming to all.

 Special Educational Needs & Disability

School Support and Contact

At Barlby Community Primary School, we recognise that every child is unique and special and will always strive to meet the needs of all pupils within our school.

Within our curriculum, every child is given opportunity and support, in a safe, caring and stimulating environment, with the aim of enabling them to reach the highest possible standards. As a school, we recognise the importance of not only supporting children’s academic progress but also developing their behavioural, emotional and social skills to enable them to become confident, independent learners.

Special Eductional Needs & Disability (SEND) has a high profile within school and staff constantly receive high quality information and training. All staff are committed to meeting the needs of all our children and strive to break down any barriers that are preventing children from making the progress they are capable of. We aim to quickly identify pupils who are making limited progress, and provide targeted interventions to support and meet their needs. We ensure that parents are fully aware of the SEND process and informed of their child’s learning at regular points throughout the year. We are a fully inclusive school and work alongside the Local Authority, Health Professionals and community organisations to find the most appropriate and effective support for pupils within our care.

The following documents provide more information in relation to SEND and how we can support your child together. If you have any concerns, or wish to discuss SEND at our school, please feel free to contact the school’s SENDCO Mrs Adams. (For any immediate concerns, please speak to your child’s class teacher in the first instance.)

 SEND Legislation

The reforms in the Children and Families Bill (2014) affected the way children with special educational needs are supported in schools. This new approach was implemented in September 2014 and places pupils at the centre of planning. This useful government guide explains the legislation in detail and is aimed at parents of children from 0-25 who have a special educational need or disability.

We have clear, whole school expectations on how we approach SEND, with good quality teaching as a first response and a clear focus on outcomes. All staff play an integral role in suporting pupils with SEND, guided by the strategic role of our SENCOs and strong leadership from the head teachers and governors.

As part of this new legislation, Local Authorities have a duty to publish a Local Offer, setting out in one place information about provision they expect to be available in their area across education, health and social care for children and young people in their area who have SEN or are disabled, including those who do not have EHC plans.
